New ONYX 4.6 Licensing for PC Systems
With the upcoming 4.6 version ONYX adjusts its licensing structure.
These changes will not affect users of ONYX USB or NETRON Ether-DMX devices, and all existing Wings and Keys continue to support their current Universe licenses.
Available for order is also the new ONYX Essential Key, which is the perfect way for anyone requiring unlocked EtherDMX data or I/O Protocol support at a lower price.

M6 ONYX Upgrade Kit
Introducing the M6 ONYX Upgrade Kit
We have designed a powerful upgrade kit that replaces the entire processing core of the M6 console, adds a Windows IOT license and a dedicated ONYX license. This kit takes the M6 to the next level and we are glad that we can offer it to the market to keep the M6 a relevant and powerful console in the ONYX platform for a very long time.
This upgrade was necessary for several reasons; The M6 was only licensed for Windows 7 Embedded, but ONYX no longer supports the Windows 7 OS. The original video card of the M6 is a business class graphics card suitable to drive multiple displays, but it does not have anywhere near enough processing power for the 3D calculations that ONYX now requires with DyLOS integration. This means there is no way for DyLOS to function on it and it has to be replaced with a modern graphics card.
However a new graphics card also means replacing the motherboard (and CPU/RAM/SSD) to support the full
Hello 2020!
A very successful (and quite eventful) 2019 is over and I wanted to give a brief recap and outlook of what we plan to achieve in 2020 at Obsidian Control Systems.
It has been an incredible 2019 which saw the introduction of a lot of new hardware for ONYX and NETRON and of course the introduction of DYLOS. Our team of developers and support members expanded throughout the year, allowing us to develop faster and offer timely support around the world. Also our distributor network expanded further through 2019, making Obsidian Control Systems truly a global brand dedicated to entertainment lighting control.
In January 2019 we had the first production model NX2 at the NAMM show, which started to ship in large volumes to customers in March. The response in the market has been great for the NX2. For a fun review of the NX2 check out this “unboxing” video from Stan Pruitt:
ONYX supported hardware and license changes
With the release of the NX4 and the upcoming integration of the DYLOS composer the time has come to phase out software updates for some older hardware and adapt our support for non ONYX devices.
Release 4.2.1057 is the last version to include support for Windows 7/8 and for M1 / M2GO consoles. Future ONYX versions will also remove the support for the Enttec USB DMX devices.
For PC systems the FREE mode remains supported for Universes 1,2,3 and 4 using Artnet, sACN and Onyx USB DMX devices. It also allows unrestricted use of MIDI Notes, MIDI Showcontrol, MIDI Timecode and remote Artnet/DMX Input.
Windows Version Support
ONYX requires Windows 10 (64-bit) going forward. Supported are Home/Pro/Enterprise. Obsidian recommends Windows 10 Pro.
All support for previous Windows Versions has been removed and ONYX was adapted to a 64-bit application.
Phase out of M2GO and M1 updates
Version 4.2 is the last versio
